Say what you will about Rick Ross, the first track from his mixtape Rich Forever has a meaningful intensity that is extremely interesting to me. “Holy Ghost” reads like a reflective King’s thoughts. This king is extremely focused on his success and will do anything to retain his station. But who is he defending his throne from? “He knocking on the door, don’t let the devil in.” Who is the devil Ross has to keep out? Those who threaten his success? The corrupting effects of success? Ross hints that scandalous women and intrusive lawmen are his main foes, but maybe Ross poses a threat to himself. Whatever the case, “Holy Ghost” is a solid song and I highly recommend it.
